Accompanying Person Tours

A special selection of tours have been designed exclusively for iADH2012 Congress for accompanying persons, families and for delegates on their free days. Most tours include the services of a guide and some tours require a minimum number of participants to operate. All tours run daily unless otherwise stated. If this number is not reached, a full refund or alternative arrangements will be made.

All fees are quoted in Australian dollars (AUD) and are inclusive of 10% GST.

Botanical Gardens Aboriginal Tour
Included with Accompanying Persons registration for 29 October 2012.

Step deep into the Australian bush with an Indigenous guide and explore the myriad of native bush foods that can be found in the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. Listen to ancient plant lore and experience these plants from the bush to the plate by tasting a selection of authentic and delicious seasonal bush foods, herbs and spices prepared by celebrity Indigenous chef Mark Olive and Black Olive Productions.

Lanes and Arcades Tour

Meet at Federation Square where you will begin a three hour walk through Melbourne’s beautiful lanes and arcades. Though they may be well known, not all their wonders are easy to find.

Discover local designers and specialty retailers that often are only found in the city. A little history and attention to amazing architecture will inspire locals and visitors alike. See over 50 stores and return to those you like best in the afternoon, make a day of it in Marvellous Melbourne!

City and River Cruise

Melbourne has compelling appeal in its gardens, its history, its character and its charm. Inhabited by cultures from across the globe, Melbourne has a fascination in the mix of its cosmopolitan people who give generously and share passionately in the richness of this most dynamic and vibrant city. As well as visiting many of Melbourne’s famous sights the tour also travels through trendy St Kilda and Port Melbourne. Yarra Valley Wineries Tour

Winery tours have never been so much fun or affordable. The tour takes in some of Victoria’s best wineries in the stunning region of The Yarra Valley only one hour from Melbourne. Included aretutored tastings at premium wineries. Start the day at Yering Station Vineyard for tastings, and then it’s on to Rochford wines for a superb restaurant lunch with wine, finishing the day at the home of Australia’s No.1 bubbly, Domaine Chandon, for light tasting platters and a glass of sparkling. Here you enjoy a guided tour through the winery that shows you how the wine is made.

Great Ocean Road Tour

Experience the amazing coastline diversity in Victoria, by taking in the roaring surf, rock outcrops and towering cliffs. We make stops at numerous beaches, lookouts and scenic spots to allow you an opportunity to take plenty of happy snaps, as well as to simply relax while enjoying the amazing views. We also visit an area where the local koalas are particularly abundant, ensuring excellent koala viewing while enjoying a stroll amongst the sweetly-scented eucalyptus forest.

You will also meet some of our favourite feathered friends, With an opportunity to hand feed some of the colourful local parrots that live in the Great Otway National Park. Our lunch stop is at the foot of the Otway Rangers in the beautiful town of Apollo Bay, Australia. Your guide will escort you among Australia’s unique birds and animals in the natural bushland setting of Australia’s premier wildlife and nature sanctuary, home to over 200 species of Australian birds, mammals and reptiles. Get up close to koalas, kangaroos, wombats, emus, cockatoos, parrots and many more; witness the amazing and exciting Eagles Fly demonstration within the sanctuary. Penguins

A day tour encapsulating the Gippsland region’s renowned travel destinations. Your first destination is the delightful Bass River Winery. This boutique winery is set amongst the Gippsland hills and offers stunning views while we sample and learn about the range of estate-produced wines, and will also enjoy a sampling of Gippsland’s finest cheeses & other gourmet produce. The next stop to tantalise your taste buds is the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory, where you will be amazed by the world’s largest chocolate waterfall. Immerse yourself in the island’s history with a guided visit to Churchill Island, then head to the island’s coast to experience the rugged rocky outcrops and panoramas at the Nobbies. After all this, we’ll make our way to Summerland Beach for the highlight of the show – the internationally renowned Penguin Parade at sunset. Please note that this tour will return to Melbourne CBD at 9pm.

Pre and Post Congress Tours

A selection of tours has been planned specifically for the Congress. Registering for one or more of these tours will allow you the opportunity to travel with colleagues from around the world while enjoying the marvellous attractions of this vast continent. Some tours require minimum numbers to operate. If these numbers are not achieved, an alternative programme will be offered or a complete refund made. Certain tours will also have limited space, which will be allocated strictly in order of receipt of bookings.

Ayres Rock Northern Territory Self-Drive Tour

Discover the natural wonders of the Red Centre and the remote outback town of Alice Springs, the heart of the Northern Territory.

Day 1: Alice Springs
Collect your vehicle early and explore this beautiful part of the outback. The Old Telegraph Station, the Aviation Museum and the original Royal Flying Doctor Service are iconic Alice attractions worth visiting (own expense), or explore the West MacDonnell Ranges and its spectacular and unique scenery. Overnight at Aurora Alice Springs.

Day 2: Alice Springs to Kings Canyon (476km)
Travel to Kings Canyon today and pass the Henbury Meteorite craters en route, formed around 4,700 years ago. Continue to Kings Canyon Resort and explore Kings Canyon where you can walk the rim of the canyon and gaze 300 metres down to the valley floor. Sandstone walls frame the Garden of Eden, a unique waterhole surrounded by palms and ferns. Overnight at Kings Canyon Resort.

Day 3: Kings Canyon to Uluru (318km)
Make an early start to complete the Rim Walk at Kings Canyon. Then travel to Yulara and see the world’s greatest monolith, Uluru and the domes of Kata Tjuta (Olgas). Check into your hotel and in the afternoon learn about the region’s history, unique flora and fauna, how the earth created such remarkable landmarks and also how the Aboriginal communities have lived and thrived here for thousands of years. Finish the day with a trip out to the famous ‘sunset strip’ and witness the spectacle of the sun setting over Uluru. Overnight at Voyages Outback Pioneer Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort.

Day 4: Uluru
Enjoy the morning at leisure or to further explore this amazing region. Perhaps experience a beautiful sunrise over Uluru or take a walk into majestic Walpa (Olga) Gorge. Return the car to the airport today by the same time it was picked up on Day 1 to avoid additional charges.

Travel Insurance
It is strongly recommended that at the time of booking your travel and tours, you take out a travel insurance policy before your departure.

International & Domestic Australian Airfares

The Congress Travel Office can provide competitive airfares for your air travel to Australia. Please contact us for a quotation. Pre & Post tours do not include international or domestic airfares (unless specified).

Important Visa Information

Most travellers will require a visa for entry into Australia. Please check with your airline, travel agent or nearest Australian Consulate, as immigration laws are very strict.

Late Bookings – Pre & Post Tours

Any bookings made after 1 October 2010 will be subject to availability. The Congress Travel Office reserves the right to impose a late booking fee of AU$50 per person per tour.

Pre & Post Tours Exclusions

Pre & Post Tours do not include items of a personal nature such as laundry, telephone calls and mini bar costs.

Cancellation Policy

The following cancellation policies apply:
(a) Pre & Post Tours
Prior to 1 October 2012 a full refund less the AU$200 per person per tour non-refundable deposit. From 1 October 2012 all cancellations are subject to 100% cancellation penalties. All cancellations must be received in writing to the Congress Travel Office.
(b) Day Tours
Please select the day tours carefully as day tours are non-refundable.

Accommodation

Cancellation Deadline: 17 September 2012

You are encouraged to book your accommodation through the Congress Secretariat to ensure that you receive competitive rates.

Deposits

Accommodation will not be confirmed until a deposit of one night’s tariff is received. This deposit will be forwarded to your hotel and will be credited to your room account. Delegates must settle the balance of their account with the relevant hotel upon checking out. If accommodation deposits are not received before 17 September 2012 your room will be released back to the hotel. The Congress Secretariat does not take responsibility for accommodation if deposits are not received by this date.

Group Accommodation Bookings

The Congress Secretariat offers organisations the opportunity to contract ten or more rooms for the Congress. This requires a contract to be signed by ICMS Australasia and your organisation to block the group reservation.
